The cmu/thread-devboards dataset (2022-05-16)
Captured Thread packets from OpenThread-enabled development boards.
Contributed by Dimitrios-Georgios Akestoridis, Vyas Sekar, Patrick Tague.
This Carnegie Mellon University dataset contains Thread packets that were captured using a software-defined radio (USRP N210). More specifically, the contributors used GNU Radio with the gr-ieee802-15-4 and gr-foo modules to receive IEEE 802.15.4 packets and store them in PCAP format. Furthermore, the contributors used Adafruit Feather nRF52840 Express devices that were flashed with OpenThread binaries for Nordic Semiconductor nRF528xx SoCs in order to form Thread networks. In total, 35 experiments were conducted in order to study the security of Thread networks, which can be organized into three different types of experiments: (a) packet analysis experiments, (b) energy depletion attack experiments, and (c) online password guessing attack experiments. This research was supported in part by the Secure and Private IoT initiative (IoT@CyLab) at the Carnegie Mellon CyLab Security and Privacy Institute. More details about the procedure that was followed and the master keys that were generated for each experiment are included in the dataset.
