PRIVACY POLICY

We care about our users' privacy but do need to collect some basic personal data in order to provide you with a service.

We have taken care to minimize the amount of data that we collect. If you have questions about anything in this notice please contact  crawdad@crawdad.org

What data do we collect and for how long?

We collect and store these personal data for as long as you remain a CRAWDAD user:

  • date of registration
  • your name
  • your e-mail address

We collect the following data at the point of registration, but they are not retained in a form linked to your personal data; we use them to compute aggregate statistics about the population of CRAWDAD users.

  • your institution type (e.g., academic, industry)
  • your country

If you later deactivate your account, we delete your personal information above and retain only an unidentifiable record indicating the date of registration and the date of deactivation.

We use this information so we can track the number of active CRAWDAD users over time.

Why do we need your data?

We need to collect your personal data for these purposes:

  • to verify your registration as a legitimate user
  • to provide you with an account to download datasets
  • to record the fact that you have agreed to our data-user license
  • to allow you to reset your password
  • to send you service messages (e.g., when the CRAWDAD servers are going to be out of service)
  • to collect aggregate statistics on the number of CRAWDAD users (overall, by type of institution, and by country) over time

Our legal basis for processing the personal data

By registering for a CRAWDAD account you consent to our collecting and storing data as described above. If you do not grant consent then we will not collect any data, but you will not receive a CRAWDAD account.

Who will we share your data with?

We will not share your data with any other parties. We will share aggregate statistics (e.g., number of CRAWDAD users over time, across countries, across institution types) with our sponsors and on our public website.

What we would also like to do with your data?

We would like to use your name and e-mail address to inform you of new CRAWDAD datasets and tools. During registration you will be given the option of subscribing to the CRAWDAD-NEWS mailing list: https://listserv.dartmouth.edu/scripts/wa.exe?SUBED1=CRAWDAD-NEWS
You can unsubscribe from (or resubscribe to) this list at any time, through that link.

Where do we keep your data?

Your personal data will be stored on a server in the United States of America. Data will not be transferred elsewhere. The server is secured using appropriate encryption and access-control mechanisms.

Your rights

Your data can be accessed, corrected or deleted at any time by e-mail request to  crawdad@crawdad.org
Note that deletion of your personal data will lead to the removal of your account as it is required to provide a service to you.

If you wish to close your account then e-mail  crawdad@crawdad.org
We will delete all data that we hold about you, other than your date of registration and date of deactivation.

If you are an EU resident and wish to file a complaint, please do so through your local supervisory authority. You can find a list of these authorities on the EU Data Protection website: http://ec.europa.eu/newsroom/article29/item-detail.cfm?item_id=612080
